I thought the tempoary security of the apartment was good, but this beats all.
Sorry I said you makeme read too much. I wasn't serious. I hope uo're well and not plagued so much by the headaches lately. As has happened a few times in the story, someone came to the rescue, and this time, it was directly related to your art. I cannot anticipate the next turn, but it appears that the check was given with no strings attached. That's pretty amazing. It hearkens back to the old days of patronage where art was not so much a commercial enterprise but a unique arena of human endeavor that was valued by the aristocracy and by the state.

Ironically, it was probably just as harrowing as today's corporate stranglehold on art since the artist survived, literally, at the whim of his/her patron. Piss them off, and the ride was over.

Very funny dilemma: the banks weren't interested in taking the $15,000 off your hands. I love it.Tim McMullenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04840770464754311701noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6026171904413475346.post-38441748414303852402009-07-16T21:50:31.680-07:002009-07-16T21:50:31.680-07:00"For those of you who have followed my story,..."For those of you who have followed my story, or have gotten to know me a little from the internet, and may have accused me of demanding money for my work, I suggest you consider this."

You have every right to demand money for your work. Artists get taken advantage of way too much because we love what we do. Since we love what we do, people assume we should be willing to give our art away to any and everyone who demands some of it, and they attempt to make us feel guilty for wanting compensation. Screw that; its work just like everything else.

An fellow artist friend of mine said the last time someone asked him to give him one of his pieces for free and hinted that he'd be a miser not to, he told the person, "Go find a doctor or a dentist to work on you for free and see what they say." haha!

VAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
